Barista

The Barista is responsible for creating and serving high-quality coffee drinks and providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment. They must have a thorough understanding of coffee, espresso machines, and the ability to craft a variety of beverages while ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coffee Preparation:
• Operate espresso machines to prepare espresso-based drinks (e.g., lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, etc.).
• Brew and serve a variety of coffee drinks, including drip coffee, cold brew, and specialty drinks.
• Grind coffee beans, steam milk, and ensure drink consistency and quality.
• Prepare and serve non-coffee beverages such as tea, hot chocolate, and smoothies.
• Customer Service:
• Greet customers warmly, answer questions, and take orders.
• Provide product recommendations and explain menu items.
• Handle customer complaints and concerns in a professional and friendly manner.
• Maintain a positive and helpful attitude at all times.
• Maintaining Cleanliness:
• Keep the work area, equipment, and café clean and organized.
• Follow health and safety guidelines for food and beverage preparation.
• Ensure all equipment is regularly cleaned and maintained.
• Refill supplies such as coffee beans, milk, and syrups as needed.
• Cash Handling and Point-of-Sale (POS):
• Take customer payments and operate the cash register.
• Process credit card transactions, provide change, and issue receipts.
• Track inventory and assist with ordering supplies when needed.
• Teamwork:
• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations.
• Assist with training new baristas and sharing knowledge about coffee preparation.
• Contribute to a positive and cooperative team environment.
• Additional Duties:
• Participate in promotional or special events as directed by management.
• Assist with inventory control and stock management.
• Ensure a friendly, clean, and inviting atmosphere for customers.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a barista or in customer service is preferred but not always required.
• Ability to operate coffee machines and equipment.
• Knowledge of coffee beans, brewing methods, and espresso preparation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong multitasking ability and attention to detail.
• Ability to stand for long periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills for handling transactions and making change.
• Ability to follow health and safety standards.

Work Environment:

• Baristas typically work in coffee shops, cafes, or restaurants.
• The environment can be fast-paced, especially during peak hours.
• Flexibility with work hours is often required, including weekends, mornings, or evenings.
